Abstract

Background. The relevance of the search of treatment options for diabetes mellitus is not in doubt due to the fact that, despite the active development of methods for treating this ailment (and the huge financial investments directed to this healthcare industry), the majority of patients seeking medical help, unfortunately, already have complications in the organs targeted by diabetes. The timely appointment of insulin replacement therapy and oral hypoglycemic agents often improves the quality of life of patients, but does not significantly reduce the percentage of complications and does not increase the life expectancy of patients. Given the above, it is necessary to continue the search for new drugs that can affect the pathogenesis of metabolic disorders in diabetes mellitus, and therefore reduce the frequency of complications, reduce treatment costs and try to increase the patients' life span
Materials and methods. For the study, 54 outbred Wistar rats, having reached maturity, weighing 175–195 g, contained in the vivarium under comfortable conditions, were used; in animals, diabetes was artificially induced. In order to form diabetes mellitus, the animals were intramuscularly injected with a solution of dexamethasone at a dose of 125 μg / kg, then for two weeks in the experimental groups, the studied drugs were administered together with dexamethasone injections.
Results. Liposomal forms of 3-GP nicotinate and 3-GP fumarate significantly reduce blood glucose levels against the background of induced diabetes. The therapy with these compounds has improved the phenotypic characteristics of experimental animals.
Conclusions. As a result of the study, the hypoglycemic activity of 3-GP fumarate and 3-GP nicotinate was proved, which was accompanied by an improvement in external signs and the absence of mortality in the experimental animals.
